Royal Navy – Climate Change & Sustainability
PortsmouthThe 3rd annual Royal Navy Action Learning Output event was on Climate Change & Sustainability.
The Issue: The Royal Navy is responsible for almost 1 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions per year, split across direct and indirect channels. As part of the UK Government’s Net Zero by 2050 target, Navy Transformation is responsible for developing a programme to achieve that goal.
The aspiration: The Royal Navy outlined their focus areas for carbon reduction and their aim of taking an innovative approach to reduce emissions. Of particular interest were new suppliers and novel techniques which have been used with success in other industries.
The output: The Output of the Event listed potential projects and approaches which can take the Navy towards its zero-carbon goal, a roadmap for how concepts can be turned into concrete deliverables, and a clear pathway to implementation.
