Senior Defence Commercial Lead
Senior Defence Commercial Lead Role
Hawkrose is delighted to announce we are hiring for a senior role in our Defence and Public Sector Team. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for the management of Hawkrose’s commercial relationships with customers in the Defence and Public Sector.
The successful candidate will report to Hawkrose’s Commercial Director but will be given the autonomy to set their own direction of work, working closely with both Hawkrose’s Defence Team, and the Hawkrose Lab.
The role will require the candidate to have a range of sales, commercial, bid management and account management skills. The successful candidate will have the ability to lead complex software and consultancy sales cycles, act as the senior commercial specialist for the sector, present to the company leadership team on progress and lead sector marketing campaigns. The role is a combination of new business and account management. Experience of both break-in sales and the expansion of an account is desirable.
The role requires a mixture of home, customer site and office-based working with the expectation that the successful candidate will be in the Hawkrose office in Guildford at least one day per week and one day per week at one of the key client sites (London, Portsmouth, Bristol).
Required Skills
As this is both a sales and commercial position, excellent communication and relationship management skills are needed, as well as the commercial acumen to develop relationships with customers and other commercial providers in order to sustain and expand the Defence Account.
Other desirable skills include:
Defence knowledge – must have an understanding (and preferably first-hand experience) of working with the UK MOD Commercial Function. We are particularly interested in working with those that have facilitated and transacted commercial work on the following frameworks – G-Cloud; Digital Outcomes; CCS MCF Frameworks; PDP, EDP and CDP frameworks.
Experience – Demonstrable experience in the delivery of sales and commercial assignments in previous defence and/or technology related roles – this does not need to include other consultancies.
Numerate Degree Qualification – Noting what Hawkrose delivers, it is desirable if you possess a technical degree with a large component of computer numeracy. Relevant in-role experience is acceptable in the absence of a formal qualification.
Mentoring and Technical Supervision – As a senior member of the team, you will be prepared to mentor and supervise junior staff. This includes identifying sales opportunities and commercial constraints of certain technical work packages.
Planning & Prioritisation – You will be highly organised and able to work to (sometimes challenging) deadlines agreed with our clients. To that end, supporting the business with the development of work proposals and their associated cost and timescales is an important element of the role.
